Software agent refers to programs that act on behalf of people. These intelligent programs know something about user tastes, budget and schedule and take care of personal jobs centered on managing information, typical tasks include locating and retrieving information, filtering electronic mails, scheduling appointments etc. individuals are capable himanshu143goel@gmail.com of handling these routine tasks and have been doing so far years, but intelligent agent technology held the promise of easing the burdens on users by automating such tasks.
Software agent can be static, they reside on PC, provide expert advice or services locally.
It can be mobile executing on remote computers and then returning results to computers.
The technical and operational characteristics of mobile and static software agents are quite different.

Why software agent is useful

Managing the information overload
Users are overwhelmed by the huge amount of information available and the effort time and cost required to find the specific information they need.
Decision support
There is a need for increased support for tasks performed by knowledge workers (such as managers, technical professionals and marketing personnel) especially in the decision making area.
Repetitive office activity
There is a pressing need to automate tasks performed by administrative and clerical personal in functions such as sales or customer support to reduce labour costs and increase office productivity.
Domain experts
We need to model costly expertise and make it widely available. Example of expert software agents could be models of real world agents such as translators, lawyers, diplomats etc.

Programming
The agent must be programmed or instructed in some manner. The language must be powerful enough to express the rules and concept required.
Safety
Remote hosts must be assured that the agent can cause no damage, obtain no secrets, or other illegal acts.
Resource usage
As an owner you want to be sure your agent does not exceed its budgets: as a host, you want to be sure agents do not consume disproportionate resource.
Navigation
Agent must be able to find the resources they need. They should coordinate with one another so as to traverse the information sphere efficiently.
Privacy
The agent’s internal state and programme should not be visible to other’s. Visiting agents should not discover more information than they are entitled to.
Communication
Agents must be able to communicate with user’s and one another, even if the networks is not always connected.

Owner: - agent can have many owners. Every agent have its own digital assistants.
Author: - developer name every software agent is developed or created by people and then supplied for the user’s to personalize.
Lifetime: - time to alive some agents night exist for a short duration and die after some task is completed. Others might live longer.
Account: - it keeps record of billing information electronic addresses. The agent must be charged for services that scarce resources can be used effectively.
Goal: -it represents the measure for success. Measures for success may include. Simple completion of transaction with in the boundaries of stated goal.
Background: - it include all supporting information. The information should be in the form that agent understands.

Components of the agent computing environment
An agent will rely on supporting facilities that helps the user in reaching a stated goal. At high level, these facilities will provide the intelligence for agent action. The process for agent interaction and the interconnection of computing environment that supports an intelligent agent.

1. User preferences
User can represent their preferences in many area. According to these preferences of task an intelligent agent performs its working.
2. Task and domain or specific knowledge
All the information regarding the task which guides the agent in performing the specific task, are stored in knowledge base. This knowledge will be used by the agent to guide how it goes about accomplishing its tasks.
